Our Story

Hi! We are the Haley Family. We’ve been in the cattle business for 5 generations now. It all began in West Texas over 100 years ago with my great grandfather. I went into the cattle business with my sister when I received my first herd from my dad in 8th grade. He allowed us to work the land and this herd has continued on our family land, uninterrupted, to this day. Where I grew up the rain was scarce, the land was wide, and cattle was more of a hard labor of love than a lucrative enterprise. Raising cattle was a big part of our family identity. It still is.

When we moved out of Texas to South Carolina, we all wanted to continue our family traditions into the next generation of ranchers. We’ve moved away from the long-legged Char-Bray cross that was a good pick in the desert environment (where water was a long walk away) and we’ve enthusiastically embraced the Hereford cow. We have fallen in love with their gentle and sociable nature. We also think they have so many other qualities that make them perfect stock.

We’ve also embraced other opportunities beyond cattle that this Eastern climate supports. Our kids are getting involved in bee keeping, produce, meat goats, chickens, land development and trees. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch them learn about so many things and enjoy the agriculture life, with all of its joys and heartbreaks. Every day is a new adventure!

Thanks for stopping by to our website. Let us know if we can be of any assistance to you.

Meet the Haley Family

John & Amy

John and Amy use their time to offer support to the farm businesses in a variety of ways, but mostly they just enjoy watching their capable kids live out their dreams and visions for the farms. They also eagerly volunteer for babysitting grandchildren when the younger generation is outside sweating in the hot Carolina sun!

About

John & Holly

John and Holly spent two years in West Texas managing our land and cattle ranch before relocating back to the area to oversee the Union, SC Farm. Since returning, they have added beloved Anna and Esther to the family. The girls are enjoying growing up alongside all of their goats, dogs, chickens, bees, trees and gardens.

Jake & Hallie

Jake and Hallie live on our Chester farm and they work to make the property enjoyable and functional for cattle and people.  Jake and Hallie spend alot of time focusing on pasture health and the well being of the herd, which is integral for raising quality livestock. Lately, they are working hard preparing a portion of the farm to become a 35 acre pecan orchard. So you can enjoy two different proteins from one farm!

About

Joel

Joel is a biology major at Winthrop University. A big reason he chose to go to school close to home was so that he could be near family and participate in the farm – there’s nothing quite like understanding science firsthand through nature. When he isn’t studying, Joel attends to all aspects of the businesses, including land development, research, taking care of livestock, and beekeeping.
